Welcome to The Oakfield Railroad Museum

The museum is staffed by Oakfield Historical Society volunteers, steeped in the lore of the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad and the importance of the town as a division point.

You may even find yourself talking to a retired Bangor & Aroostook railroader while visiting!

Railroad history lives at the Oakfield Station!

Our Museum is dedicated to the early years of Railroad Transportation. Besides seeing the historic wood frame station building (pictured above), you can be intrigued by hundreds of photographs- some of which are over a century old. There are also vintage signs and advertising pieces, signal lanterns, original railroad maps, telegraph equipment, newspapers, a Hand Car and a Motor Car, restored mail carts, the C-66 caboose, and a weathervane that came from the top of the old water tower that was demolished in 1982. We even have a small scale model of our Railroad Station!

Open from the Saturday prior to Memorial Day through Labor Day
on Saturdays & Sundays from 1:00pm to 4:00pm

Tours for groups and charter buses are available by prior arrangement.

All Aboard....There's always the possibility of a Maine, Montreal & Atlantic fast freight highballing by the station during your visit to this landmark site, now entered in the National Register of Historic Places. The museum is designed for the entire family. Adults will step back into yester-year as they browse through treasured memorabilia. The kids will explore every nook and cranny, inside and out including our caboose.
